How to Install the GJS 782 Cylinder Lock
Most fundis can fit this lock in under 30 minutes. Shabbiri Hardware is supply-only, but we can share contacts of independent installers near Rongai and Tuala.
- Mark the height. Mark the knob centre about 900–1,000 mm from the floor. Fold the paper template over the door edge and mark the face-bore centre (60 or 70 mm from the edge) and the edge-bore centre.
- Drill the face hole. Use a 54 mm hole saw. Drill halfway from one side, then finish from the other side so the timber does not split.
- Drill the edge hole. Drill a 23–25 mm hole in the door edge straight into the face hole.
- Fit the latch. Set the latch to your backset (60 or 70 mm), insert it with the bevel facing the door-closing direction, chisel a shallow recess so the faceplate sits flush, and screw it in.
- Fit the knobs. Pass the outside keyed knob through the latch from outside. Fit the inside rose and knob and tighten the screws evenly.
- Fit the strike plate. Close the door, mark where the latch meets the frame, chisel the recess and screw the strike plate flush.
- Test. Check the latch engages smoothly, the inside button locks and releases, and the key opens the door from outside.

- Turn the knob to open the door.
- From inside, press the button to lock. Turning the inside knob releases it.
- From outside, insert the key and turn to lock or unlock.
- Keep a spare key in a safe place.
Cleaning & Care
- Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry.
- Avoid bleach, Jik, acids and abrasive scourers. They damage the gold and nickel plating.
- Cover the knob with masking tape when painting the door.
Maintenance
- Lubricate the keyway with graphite powder or dry lock spray every 6–12 months.
- Tighten the inside rose screws if the knob feels loose.
- Never force a stiff key. Check the strike plate alignment first.
